The Staircase Makeover: From Neglected Nook to Stunning Focal Point
At The Design Store Mohali, we believe that even the most overlooked corners of your home can be transformed into design statements with the right materials and imagination. This staircase makeover is a perfect example of how thoughtful upgrades can elevate a transitional space into a true architectural highlight.
Originally hidden behind a broken door and layered in uninspiring commercial carpet, the staircase lacked warmth, charm, and functionality. Working with the homeowner’s vision, we began by selecting Indonesian walnut wood stair treads and risers—a premium, richly grained timber that not only added durability but beautifully matched the existing flooring. Once stained and sealed, the natural wood tone brought depth and cohesion to the home’s palette.
To enhance comfort and aesthetics, we helped integrate a classic carpet runner, softened for everyday use yet sophisticated enough for a curated look. Brass stair rods were added as an ornate finishing detail—blending old-world charm with modern sensibility.
Our design advice also extended to wall color coordination, handrail repainting, and the addition of ornate crown molding—details that tied the staircase seamlessly into the adjoining living room. These subtle refinements helped unify the space while giving it a bespoke, designer-finished feel.
This project is a testament to what’s possible when quality materials meet creative intent. Whether it's walnut wood, brass accents, or tailored trims, The Design Store offers both the products and the vision to bring your dream makeover to life.Once neglected and hidden, this staircase has been completely transformed using Indonesian walnut stair treads, a rich carpet runner, and elegant brass stairrod details. From painting to crown molding, see how thoughtful upgrades turned it into a striking feature that blends beautifully with the rest of the home.
